Leading Kids to Jesus

As a small group leader you are building relationships with the kids in your group and as a result you should  be prepared to respond when one of them tells you they want to make Jesus their forever friend.  If you ever have a question about this process, please reach out to a room leader, coach, or staff member who can assist you.

The actual process of accepting Jesus is simple. If a kid approaches you indicating an interest in accepting Christ, you can sit with them in a quieter corner of the room and go through the ABC prayer to ask Jesus to be their forever friend.

"A" stands for Admit your sins. "B" stands for Believe in Jesus. "C" stands for Choose Jesus to be your forever friend. You would pray a short, simple prayer asking the kids who want to make a decision to follow Jesus for the first time to say the ABC prayer in their own words. It could sound like this:

Dear God,
I ADMIT my sins to You.
I ASK for your forgiveness.
I BELIEVE Jesus died to take the punishment for my sin.
Thank You for sending Your Son to die and rise again.
I CHOOSE You to be my Forever Friend.
Amen.

After praying with the child you can tell them that the angels in heaven are "doing a happy dance" because they are so happy about their making a decision today.  "In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Luke 15:10

You can also mention it to the parents when they pick them up and tell your coach as well so we can all rejoice with you and the child.

Shepherding A Child's Heart by Tedd Tripp is a book that we recommend you read to better equip you to serve in this ministry.
